General description
Integrin beta7 is an adhesion molecule belonging to the integrin beta chain family. It forms heterodimers with the alpha subunit, most notably the integrin alpha4 and alphaE subunits, functioning to mediate migration and homing of lymphocytes to the gut-associated lymphoid tissue (GALT). The heterodimer formed with alpha4, α4β7, is specifically involved in the homing and migration of lymphocytes to the gut, while αEβ7 is involved in the binding of T lymphocytes to epithelial cells and is induced by TGFβ1. Integrin beta7 has been observed in several different leukocyte lines.
